“El veneno del baile” is one of the long-term research and production projects carried out by the Asturian-born artist Paco Cao (Tudela Veguín, Spain, 1965). The project was commissioned by the CGAC as part of Proxecto-Edición (2006-2008), for the production of a 71-minute film whose plot is the starting point for the story which sustains the exhibition presented in 2011 at the 8th Mercosul Biennial in Porto Alegre (Brazil), intertwining fiction and historical reality. The installation he presents at the MUSAC under the title Venenum Saltationis is arranged in two sections including a new version of the film and the installation, as if in a kind of inventory of a number of materials and objects such as a series of hand-painted tarpaulins or backdrops, the facsimile of an ancient book, clothes, etc.

In addition, the artist will give a lecture-performance in which, once again, he will interconnect the documentary materials the film is based on, the geographic itinerary of the book that takes us to places like the Caribbean or New York, to a number of leading names in culture and show business, and even to a special cocktail the attendants will be invited to.
